Professional Mental Health Counseling for teens and adults living in Michigan.

About the Practice

Sometimes the weight of our struggles can make even the smallest hurdles feel insurmountable.  During times of depression, anxiety or other stressors, it’s hard to know what to do next, or to act on a plan we’ve rehearsed a million times.  The way forward is unclear, scary, or blocked.  We can become paralyzed, lash out, fake our happiness, binge on booze or other substances, respond in all kinds of ways that to others, or even ourselves, seem disproportionate or out of character.

Whatever you’re going through right now, I’d like to hear about it and help you find your strength and footing to find a way forward.  My 15+ years of experience helping those in crisis is teaching me that kindness, understanding, hope, and laughter can be just as important in the counseling office as the strategies and techniques I’ve learned along the way.  Let’s start to make sense of things together and make some new growth.

Issues

Depression/Sadness/Low Motivation

It could show as social withdrawal, hopelessness, sleep and appetite changes and loss of interest in things you used to like. Everyone needs help to feel their best.

Anxiety, worry, and preoccupation

Persistent racing thoughts and over thinking can be all consuming and yet not bring you any closer to your goals. Explore strategies to regain control of your brain and foster a sense of calm.

Relationship help

Our closest relationships can provide profound comfort and support as well as devastating pain and uncertainty. We can begin to sort things out and boost your confidence and security.

Alcohol, Cannabis, Substance use issues

We go to these to relax, sleep, have fun, reflect, and get relief from pain. What if you could attain these things without the effects of overuse dragging you down?

Self Esteem and Confidence Building

You’re smarter, stronger, and more courageous than you know. Believing and embracing this can make a world of difference.

Career

Though feeling uneasy about your career is nearly universal at some point, it can be incredibly anxiety producing. Let's chat about your dreams, what makes you tick, and the roadblocks you might be facing. We'll craft a plan to give you the confidence to make your career truly yours.

Life Transitions

Breakups, deaths, parenting, aging and other milestones are part of being human. But any major change, even positive ones, can shock our system in unexpected and stressful ways.

Religious Deconstruction and Faith Crisis

As we develop our own identifies and lifestyles it’s common to find ourselves further and further from the foundations we once held dear. It’s too often a process marked by conflict, pain, shame, secrecy, and confusion. Let’s talk about what you want for your one life.

LGBTQIA+ / affirming of all backgrounds

An inclusive and affirming space for individuals of all backgrounds. Let's work together to address your unique concerns in a supportive and judgment-free environment.

My Style

Though it can be, therapy needn’t be heavy all the time.  It is also uplifting, interesting, and fun; something to look forward to.  My clients have described me as calm, encouraging, and funny.   I’m a master’s level Licensed Professional Counselor and am trained in trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy, addiction, crisis intervention, family relationships, depression and anxiety.  Though there are many tools to treat distress, something that works for one person may not fit for you. Together, we’ll explore various paths forward, finding what feels most helpful at a pace that works for you.

Currently, sessions take place via telehealth, with in person sessions in the Forest Hills area coming soon.

Off the Clock

A lifelong Michigander, I now live in Forest Hills with my wife and 3 girls.  In my free time I can usually be found playing guitar or piano, reading, tinkering in my shop, spending time in nature, or snuggling with my dog.

Fees, Insurance etc.

Sessions are $150.   All major credit cards as well as FSA and HSA cards are accepted and can be securely stored for ease of payment each session.  Fee flexibility is available for those in need.

While we are currently not an in-network provider, we can provide a billing statement at the end of each month to be submitted for insurance reimbursement.

As a sense of ownership in therapy is important, teen clients must seek services voluntarily and parent involvement will be requested initially and as necessary.
